1. Make it easy for the interviewer. Make a plan for the interview and stick to it. Know when you are next available, the money you want, what your notice period is etc. You will come across more seriously and you will make the process smooth. Impressions are everything.
  2. Am I actually interested in this job? Make sure you know what excites you about the role and can share that. If you aren’t interested why are you going to the interview?
  3. Plan your journey! Do you have the address? Have you noted the right office? Do you know how to get there? Where will you park?
  4. Familiarise yourself with the Job Spec. Read it several times, print it and bring it with you to read on the journey if you can.
  5. How does your experience match up? List out all your experiences/ projects that match the spec. This will make the examples spring to mind better when asked.
  6. Research, Research, Research. Find out about the company, the office and the person who is going to interview you and or manage you. Look at their website, LinkedIn profiles as a minimum
  7. What don’t you know? Think of questions you’d like to ask. What do you need to know to make a career decision to join that business. Think about all the things you have liked or disliked about your last roles to give you insight into what would be useful to know. It also doesn’t look good to not have questions. It looks like you aren’t interested.
  8. What do you need to bring? Passports, certificates, location or map if you are going off the beaten track, your CV, notebook, pen
  9. Get a good night’s sleep. Make sure you are well rested, have had a good meal and are well hydrated before your interview. It will impact your performance!
  10. Arrive on time, in good spirits ready to win that job
